Sims 4 Says Already Running

I just updated my Mac to the newest OS and now the Sims 4 won't open from Origin. I get a window that pops up saying: Unable to start: The Sims 4 is already running. Mar 10, 2020  Contrary to popular belief, there exists a bevy of awesome games available on Mac computers. From stellar indies like Night in the Woods to popular free-to-play Battle Royale Fortnite, take a.

  • try this pull your whole my documents/electronic arts/ sims 4 folder to the desktop and try again
  • I've tried that :( it did not work, but I actually got it working somehow, I created a second admin on my computer. Now it wasn't working on the second admin but when I went back to the original admin the game worked! However it wont save anything I get error code '0' now.. what a headache.
  • Not sure if this will work but load Origin and go to My Games, then right click on The Sims 4 and choose repair. This seems to correct most errors. Good luck.

  • Check Task Manager to make sure the game doesn't think it's already running. You can close it out there.

  • Make sure you have access to the Pictures folder in your Windows user account. I had an error after I installed iCloud for Windows on my PC saying I didn't have access to my iCloud Photos folder. I went to my User Account folder and double-clicked on the Pictures folder. It was right, Windows said I didn't have access, so I allowed my account access to it again and now The Sims 4 works. This wasn't iCloud for Windows fault, it's just how I noticed it. I had this problem before iCloud for Windows was installed, but thanks to it alerting me to this problem I can now play The Sims 4 again!

This was it... this is what my problem was... I spent 2 weeks trying to figure this out for my wife... and it was a darn permissions thing for the windows pictures / documents folder.
    Thank you so much.

I was at the end of my rope trying to figure this out after I updated to Windows 10. I tried everything I could think of, repairing the game, uninstalling/reinstalling, restoring my PC to a backup date, I even tried crying... and it was this silly Permissions thing for the Sims 4 Documents folder. I would never have thought of this. Thank You sooooo much to the users who suggested this!
  • Hi, I am having the same problem and error code. I have tried to the best of my ability to fix it the way you said, but I guess I don't know how to allow permissions for it. Could I please get some assistance?

    Hello @AceHawkins.
    Log out of Origin.
Shut down your computer completely. Start the computer again, then log in to origin, launch the game and see if that helps.
Try resetting your sims 4 folder and see if that helps. To do that, move your sims 4 folder ( that is in Documents -Electronic Arts - then the sims 4 folder is there ) to the desktop. Then try to start the game. If you can start the game, a new sims 4 folder will be generated. Start a new game and test to see if the game is working okay. Exit the game and then add back the 'options.ini' file and the 'saves' , 'screenshots' 'tray' 'custom music ' and 'mods' folders to the new sims 4 folder, replacing the new generated file/ folders with the old file/folders, testing after replacing each one to see how the game is working.
If the problem is still there after doing that, repairing the game may help. To do that, right click on the sims 4 picture in Origin and click repair.
    Delete the origin cache files
    http://sims4.crinrict.com/en/2014/09/delete-origin-cache-files/
If you are still having problems, uninstall and reinstall origin.

  • @ceejay402 and @rosemow so I know this is an old thread but I suddenly developed this issue out of nowhere. I cleaned my pc cache, restarted, manually uninstalled origin, etc, all the things EA help suggested.... Moving the sims 4 documents folder to my desktop and then launching worked. I added back my tray and saves etc into the new folder generated on launch and my game works again like nothing happened. Thank you so so so so much!!!!!!

    Helllo @kaylathebeer
The sims 4 folder is found in Documents -electonic arts -sims 4 folder. A sims 4 folder is generated the first time that you play the game. It is not there until you play the game once.
Try doing what is in this link and see if that helps the issue

  • I came here today because of this same problem. I don't have Windows10, BTW. What 'fixed' it for me was that I was double-clicking my TS4 icon on my screen to play, EXACTLY like I did yesterday when it was working. Kept getting the error. Did a repair of the game. Rebooted. Same thing. Then I thought I would double-click the Origin icon instead of the TS4 icon. It worked. No reason.
Thought I would mention that in case others could 'fix' it that easily too.

    Hello @XiiNNY
Shut down your computer completely. Then restart the computer and see if the issue remains.
Try doing what is suggested in this link
    http://sims4.crinrict.com/en/2015/08/game-already-running/
If the issue remains, it would be best to uninstall and reinstall Origin and see if that helps. You don’t need to uninstall /reinstall your sims games. They will still remain there when you uninstall /reinstall Origin. You won’t lose any of your games or need to repurchase them.

  • I've done it all and nothing works ... I don't know what to do. I've uninstalled origin, it didn't work. And now, I guess my last guess is to uninstall the game ...

If you haven’t already done this , try repairing the game and see if that helps. To do that, go to games library in Origin, right click on the sims 4 picture and click repair.
Try turning off origin in-game and see if that helps. To do that, go,to Game Library in Origin . Right click on The Sims 4 picture. Click on “Game Properties”. Then untick the box that enables origin in-game
Try starting the game in windowed mode

  • I know this is an old thread but I have a similar issue. I was getting the error message so I read this thread went through all the steps of each solution and finally after restarting and repairing it went away but was then replaced with 'Cannot start because game data is missing or damaged'. I've tried emptying my entire mods folder, repairing the game, restarting my computer etc. but this happened after I quit the game for less than an hour but when I tried to open the sims this happened. The only thing that I can imagine caused this was as I was installing the sims my computer said that 'TS4.exe' was installing and I read it wrong so cancelled it and when it popped up again I blocked it but I did this before playing it (when it worked) but I don't know who to undo it!
    Any suggestions?
